The 2012 Relocation Reports: Denver County, Colorado

NAR Research has produced a total of 3,147 Relocation Reports for counties throughout the United States. The Relocation Report for each county presents information on households moving into and out of the county, the average incomes of households moving between the specific county and other counties, demographic summaries of homeownership rates, and the types of home mortgages (e.g., Conventional, FHA, VA, and FSA/RHS) obtained. The most recently available data are for 2010.

The City and County of Denver is the largest city in Colorado as well as the capital. The Denver downtown district is located near the confluence of Cherry Creek with the South Platte River, approximately 12 miles east of the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Denver?s official elevation is one mile above sea level.

Total in-migration to the county was 32,446 households. A total of 11,534 households came from out of state, for example,

  • Los Angeles County, CA (397 households)
  • Maricopa County, AZ (335 households)
  • Clark County, NV (183 households)

In-migration from in-state counties included Arapahoe County (7,278 households), and Adams County (3,238 households).

Total out-migration was 27,376 households, of which 8,005 moved to a different state, for example

  • Los Angeles County, CA (245 households)
  • Maricopa County, AZ (208 households)

Out-migration to counties in Colorado included Arapahoe County (7,594 households) and Adams County (3,345 households).

The homeownership rate for Denver County was reported as 51%. For home sales with mortgages, 73 percent were conventional, 25 percent FHA-insured, and 2 percent VA-guaranteed.

The average income of households moving into Denver County was $ 39,696, and the average income of households leaving Denver County was $ 53,148.
