NEW YORK - Verizon's FiOS TV service, which competes with cable and satellite TV operators, accelerated its subscriber growth in the first quarter.
The telecom giant said Thursday that it added 192,000 net FiOS TV customers in the quarter, bringing it to 3.7 million total FiOS TV users.
In the fourth quarter, Verizon had reported 182,000 net FiOS TV additions, and in the year-ago first quarter, it had added 168,000 video subscribers.
Verizon reported its improved TV subscriber growth a day after telecom peer AT&T posted a slight slowdown in growth of subscribers for its U-verse TV service. (link) The two companies kicked off quarterly earnings season for pay TV providers.
Verizon on Thursday also said that it added 207,000 net FiOS Internet customers in the first quarter for a total of 4.3 million.
