Leaders within every organization face the challenge of moving the company forward with measurable innovation, cost reduction, and increasing profits. So how is a relevant strategy created and what is the leader?s role? Leaders first need to understand the corporate direction and align specific business units, departments and team goals appropriately.   1. Communicate the objectives clearly with expectations. Unite team members by involving them in the creation of a mission statement, role definition, and rules of engagement for their work.
  2. Create an environment that fosters entrepreneurial thinking. Ask questions that encourage team members to think beyond their current job function. Create an interest in the objectives, delegate important tasks, and allow creative problem solving. Encourage risk taking and allow the team to make mistakes?some mistakes will move you forward very quickly.
  3. Get the team involved. Expect team members to be actively engaged, let them know they all have great ideas to share and no one can sit on the side lines. Recent research conducted by Anika Ellison Savage suggests? increased knowledge sharing leads to enhanced productivity, improved quality, and accelerated innovation.

Great leaders acknowledge and respect team dynamics. They encourage members to understand each other and they give frequent, specific, timely, and sincere appreciation. Employees who feel appreciated will continually strive to move the team and the corporation forward.
