I am installing a 220v. outlet and double pole switch in our breaker box for a welder. The problem is, we have vaulted ceilings and the wire can't be run below due to a concrete slab and no crawlspace. Can I run the wire along the wall of the house for about 12 feet if I encase it in sch. 80 pvc and be "up to code"? The rest of the way it will be in the walls to get to the plug and the breaker box. Thanks.

Yes, but it is gonna be ugly looking. Exposed PVC in a house, UGH.

I should have been more clear. The pvc will be on the outside of the house, and is going a short distance (12') from the garage to the box. Where the wire will actually be in the house, it will be hidden in the wall. Is there a code on how it should be run - either below frost line, or say, above ground?

Design choice.

If you bury it, it should be 18" deep.

If you run it on the house you need to secure it properly, every 3' for 1" or smaller PVC.

Romex/NM-B cannot be used in any exterior runs.

I was planning on using 8-3 NM-B wire. Is that stuff O.K. to put in sch. 80 pvc for an outside run? I'm only wanting to use it because I'll have enough left over from another job hooking up a powdercoating system. If there are safety issues or something that is not up to code I won't use it. Sorry, I should have had all this information in my first post. I'm new to using forums in general.

Nope, nor is it good for 50 amps.
